Arizona is known for its stunning desert landscapes, golden light, and gorgeous sunsets, but if you're planning a photo session during the summer months, there’s one thing you absolutely must factor in: the heat.

As your photographer, your safety and comfort are top priorities. It’s officially HOT here, and while the desert makes a breathtaking backdrop, those triple-digit temperatures are no joke. Here are a few important things to keep in mind (and a few ways we can beat the heat together!):

Hydrate Before (and After) Your Session

Start drinking water and electrolytes the day before your session—not just the day of. Staying hydrated will help your body regulate temperature and keep you feeling your best. And don’t forget to bring water with you! This is especially important for outdoor sessions where shade may be limited.

Consider a Studio Session

Not every session has to be out in the blazing sun. There are so many beautiful studios around the Valley that offer gorgeous light, air conditioning, and endless styling opportunities. If you’re open to it, I’d love to chat about studio options that keep everyone cool and comfortable.

Communicate With Me

This is a judgment-free zone. If you’re feeling overheated or lightheaded during your session, please speak up. We can always take a break in the car or find some shade to cool down. I’m also mindful that some medications or health conditions affect how people tolerate the heat - and I’m more than happy to adjust our session accordingly. We’re in this together.

Post-Session Hydration

Once we wrap up, don’t forget to rehydrate! A quick headache on the ride home is often a sign of dehydration, so keep sipping that water (and maybe reward yourself with a smoothie or iced tea, too!).

I Bring Cooling Tools With Me

To help beat the heat, I keep handheld fans and a neck fan in my bag during summer sessions. It’s the little things that can make a big difference when you’re trying to stay cool in the Arizona sun.

Consider a Sunrise Session

I know sunrise doesn’t always sound glamorous - but hear me out. The ground hasn’t had a full day to heat up, the light is soft and dreamy, and you’ll beat the worst of the day’s temperatures. I’m a huge morning person, so if you’re game, I’m totally in!

Let’s Keep Everyone Safe This Summer

At the end of the day, your health and comfort come before any photo. Yes, we’ll get beautiful images - but we’ll also make sure you feel good while we do it. Summer in Arizona comes with its own set of challenges, but with a little prep and flexibility, we can still create magic.
