If you’ve ever considered booking a photo session but weren’t sure whether to choose a mini session or a full session, you’re not alone! Both have their perks, and the right choice really depends on your goals, your schedule, and the type of experience you're looking for. Let’s break it down so you can make the best decision for you and your family.
What is a Mini Session?
A mini session is a short and sweet photo shoot, usually lasting around 15-20 minutes. These are often offered on specific dates and at a set location, and they’re perfect for:
- Busy families who want a quick, updated photo
- Holiday card photos or milestone moments
- Budget-friendly options
- Young kids with short attention spans
Mini sessions are efficient and fun, and because they’re shorter, they come with a limited number of edited images. Think of them as a snapshot of a moment in time, just enough to capture your current season of life without the commitment of a full session.
What is a Full Session?
A full session typically lasts 45 minutes to an hour (or more, depending on the session type). You’ll have more flexibility in terms of location, outfit changes, and time to get comfortable in front of the camera. Full sessions are ideal for:
- Families who want a relaxed, storytelling experience
- Maternity, newborn, or extended family sessions
- Capturing deeper connection and variety in images
- Those wanting a full gallery with more images to choose from
With a full session, we take our time. There’s room for exploration, candid moments, and creating those in-between images that tell a bigger story.
So, Which is Right for You?
Here are a few questions to ask yourself:
- Do I want just a few updated images or a full gallery?
- Do I need a specific date/location or am I flexible?
- Am I booking for a big life event or a seasonal refresh?
- Will young kids (or reluctant partners!) do better with a short session?
If you want something quick, simple, and seasonal, a mini session might be perfect. But if you're looking to document a special milestone, want a custom location, or love the idea of a more relaxed pace, a full session will give you the full experience.
